HOZIER MOVEMENT FT. SERGEI POLUNIN
We were asked by the directors Us to lend a hand with a few shots on this promo for Hozier. They had shot a number of motion control passes, showcasing world class ballet dancer Sergei Polunin. We flawlessly combined and tweaked the passes to craft a number of multilayered shots of the performance.
Motion control often initially seems straight forward, as was the case with this film. But once you dig a little deeper, shadows, reflections, motion blur and depth of field can need a little tickle for it to be convincing. This was the case with Movement.
If you ever get a chance, I recommend the 2016 film Dancer by Steven Cantor. It revolves around Sergei and some of the challenges he has overcome. Us put me on to it, and it was gripping.
